Welcome                                                                                 

The role of the Board of Governors is to work closely with the Head teacher and staff to provide the very best education that we can for the children of our school. We are responsible for monitoring and evaluating the performance and effectiveness of the school, for ensuring that the budget is managed prudently and for supporting our excellent staff.   As governors, we want all our children to develop to their full potential academically and socially, so that they become responsible and caring adults in their later lives.                                                                                

Governors achievements have been: 

• Continued to set the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school
• Held senior leaders to account for school improvement
• Ensured financial resources are well spent
• Engaged with a governance review to focus on developing ourselves as a governing body and attend training
• Carried out a skills audit of all governors so that we have a balanced range of skills
• Taken on individual responsibilities, such as monitoring English and Mathematics; pupil premium, appraisal, pay committee and health & safety. 
• Assisting School with Ofsted report.

Governor Impact Statement – October 2024 

The Governing Body of The Waterloo School is an experienced, committed and diverse group of unpaid volunteers who have had the following impact on the school. 

We recognise and value the importance of the Governing Body ensuring that we fulfil our statutory obligations. We also set the ethos, strategic direction and values of the school by: –

•        Being a “Champion” for the school – inside and outside of the school setting. 
•   Liaising with parents to listen to their views and acting where necessary to promote an effective working partnership. 
• Supporting the curriculum by visiting classes for activities/themed days and triangulating this with the Raising Attainment Plan, ensuring effective outcomes and high standards of teaching and learning. 
• Ensuring robust leadership by acting as a ‘critical’ friend. 
• Supporting our leaders in providing an environment where both pupils and staff thrive. 
• Recognise and value the importance of the wellbeing of our staff and pupils to maintain a good ethos and environment. 
• Providing support and challenge on the running of the financial budget ensuring best value. 
• Ensuring all pupils have equal opportunities for education and personal development. 
• Ensuring safeguarding including attendance is a priority by the support and challenge of both individual governors as well as the whole governing body. 
• Ensuring health and safety throughout the school to provide safe and secure surroundings for learning and personal development. 
• Supporting the school to ensure that complaints are dealt with effectively to provide a fair outcome. 
• Maintaining a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging creative approaches, to ensure that we deliver the best possible education and personal development. 

 Governors plans for the future are: 

• Our focus for this year is on curriculum.
• Specify the monitoring we need to see and do, to ensure pupil progress is in line with expectations. 

GovernorHub

Governors have opted to use GovernorHub, a software platform built specifically for governors and governing boards.  It is used by 8,000 schools across the country. GovernorHub helps trustees, governors and clerks to work together more effectively.
