Pupil, Recovery & Service Premium

Pupil Premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

Children who are eligible include:

  • Pupils who are eligible for free school meals, or have been eligible in the past 6 years (including eligible children of families with no recourse to public funds)
  • Pupils who have been adopted from care or have left care
  • Children who are looked after by the local authority

Service Premium gives schools extra funding to support children and young people with parents in the armed forces.

Pupils attract the premium if they meet the following criteria:

  • one of their parents is serving in the regular armed forces (including pupils with a parent who is on full commitment as part of the full time reserve)
  • one of their parents died whilst serving in the armed forces and the pupil receives a pension under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme or the War Pensions Scheme
  • they have been registered as a ‘service child’ on the January school census at any point since 2016.
